Preparing your home for the shoot!

You’re moving, right? So why not pack up a lot of the non-essentials in your home in an effort to de-personalize it?

Go out and rent a storage unit for a couple of months. Start decluttering your home; packing these items and get them to the unit for safe keeping.

Neutralize the color palette of your homes overall look. I know your daughter’s room look fantastic with fairies and purple walls and she absolutely loves it; but it will be difficult for a buyer to identify with that look if that’s not their look. Go to the book store or library and thumb through the latest real estate style magazine or better yet; go to the newest subdivision in your area and check out the model home. Sometimes it may pay to have a staging company come in and do this arduous chore for you for a fee. The idea is to get prepared for the photographer to come in and show your home through digital imaging and their website.

Solid colors, no family photos, no toys or other clutter. Set the dining room table with your finest china. Encourage your realtor to hold late afternoon or early evening open house events.

More later.
